ABOUT ME
In A Nutshell...
"What sort of nut has a shell like this?"
This is daunting. What does someone put on an "about me" page? Here's goes. I've been a husband since 2000, a pastor since 2001, a dad since 2006, and a wildly sporadic blogger since 2022. Volume speaks value is a tagline I coined right out of the gate in ministry and you can read why in my inaugural post and as a running theme in most entries. More than anything else, I want the things I speak the loudest and the longest to be of the greatest value. That's what this Nic Allen page is about.

![NEW BLOG POST:
•
In 2001, Christian recording artists Philipps, Craig, and Dean released a song called “Let My Words Be Few.” I realize the irony of this considering that I’m releasing a rather wordy blog post today. At the same time, I’m focusing on the fact that my intention is to never respond to anything and everything. My lack of response is never meant to indicate a lack of care or concern or even thoughtful opinion on all things happening in the world. So much of it is deeply personal and I often have so much I want to share.

However, I also want to be certain those thoughts are first, God honoring and second, helpful. Sometimes it seems like people are locked and loaded and already have their posts penned before the current event even happens. Sometimes it seems like they’re more passionate about their point than they are about the people directly and deeply affected by what’s going on in the world. Sometimes, at least to me, it indicates an air of pride as if the whole world actually needs their unique take in order to be fully informed. Those are only meant to be observations, not judgements - still, things I don’t want to be perceived about me. Yet, this year I feel compelled…that even when my words are few, they should be more frequent.

I’ve been reading more recently Christian leaders talk about [and sometimes yell about] the battle that we’re in…one that may get worse. I wonder about the helpfulness of that metaphor. Yes, I know scripture talks about battles and how we should be armed for the spiritual ones. I wonder the damage being done as those battles become physical, verbal, and emotional. Bottom line: We are wounding people that we’re called to love. I believe battlecry imagery is contributing to that. So instead of battle lines, I wrote about storm fronts. What if we saw current events like that? Would we naturally take to different parts of scripture. Jesus calming the storm has always been very personal for me…and very transformative as of late as I’ve focused on different parts of the narrative than His power over waves. So I wrote about that.

![Eighteen years ago this week, Susan and I walked into Rolling Hills Community Church to tackle my new Student Ministry role in a church that was still best described as a plant. With a 10 month old [who is now a Clemson Tiger] and a baby on the way [who is now a Hillsboro High School Senior], we were welcomed to a church and a team that would become our forever family.
This week concludes my season of full-time service at Rolling Hills and on Monday, I transition to a new role on the Justice and Mercy International staff serving in the organization Rolling Hills founded in 2008. To put it so simply, Rolling Hills was a rescue operation in my life of ministry. It provided the absolute best place for us to raise our family, obey our ministry calling, and grow as disciples. I’ve been the Student Pastor, Kids Pastor, Family Pastor, Discipleship Pastor and the Nashville/Nashville West Campus Pastor in my 18 years and can only claim blessings. It will forever be one of the greatest honors of my life to have served here.
To the absolutely incredible staff, board, and body past and present…I could never express my overwhelming gratitude to you. To the people I’ve baptized, couples I’ve married, mourners I’ve consoled, and seekers I’ve walked beside, the chance to be part of your story and witness God Almighty’s work in your life will remain so deeply part of who I am.
That God would continue to hone my gifts, confirm my call, and allow us to remain in his service without making a move away from our home and church family is truly a blessing we don’t take for granted. In my new role at JMI, Strategic Partnership Director, I will be partnering with churches and organizations to shoulder and share the mission of promoting Gospel-centered life change for the poor, the vulnerable, and the forgotten. Learn about JMI at the link in my bio. If and when you’re in Nashville and want to grab coffee, I’d love to share more.
